Haruki Murakami é um dos escritores japoneses contemporâneos mais divulgados em todo o mundo sendo, simultaneamente, aplaudido pela crítica, que o considera um dos «grandes romancistas vivos» (The Guardian) e a «mais peculiar e sedutora voz da moderna ficção» (Los Angeles Times).
Nasceu em Quioto, em 1949. Estudou teatro grego antes de gerir um bar de jazz em Tóquio, entre 1974 e 1981.
