Esi Edugyan é uma escritora canadiana, filha de imigrantes do Gana. É licenciada pela University of Victoria e a Johns Hopkins University, e mestre em Escrita Criativa. Os seus trabalhos foram publicados em diversas antologias, entre elas a Best New American Voices 2003, coordenada por Joyce Carol Oates. O seu primeiro romance, escrito com apenas 25 anos, The Second Life of Samuel Tyne, foi publicado em vários países. Um Blues Mestiço foi finalista do Man Booker Prize 2011 e vencedor do Giller Prize 2011.
