David Hume

Filho de um proprietário rural escocês, David Hume nasceu em Edimburgo em 1711. A sua afeição às letras e à filosofia levou-o a abandonar a profissão de comerciante a que se dedicara. Tornou-se um dos pensadores mais importantes do «iluminismo» escocês e é um dos principais precursores do empirismo enquanto corrente filosófica.
