No mundo do efémero, da moda e das imagens, a arquitectura parece ter cada vez mais espaço. As conotações das linguagens veiculadas pelas revistas da especialidade, mais do que exprimir as condições dos contextos em que as obras se realizam, evidenciam as qualidades intrínsecas da obra em relação à produção individual do arquitecto.
Temos a estranha sensação de que a produção arquitectónica da prática artística, expressão material da cultura de uma sociedade, se esteja a transformar numa forma de arte de consumo que, como qualquer outro produto, é publicitada e vendida.
A facilidade de troca de informação tecnológica e material de um continente ao outro permite, teoricamente, anular as distâncias geográficas e culturais, deixando entrever, também na produção arquitectónica, possibilidades infinitas para a experimentação e aproximação a expressões mais avançadas.
A iniciativa cultural proposta pretende, através de um balanço da produção arquitectónica portuguesa dos últimos dez anos, verificar o grau de originalidade e o nível de contaminação das linguagens num confronto o mais amplo possível entre as obras de várias gerações de arquitectos. Uma leitura transversal das várias orientações de pesquisa e de experimentação, para tentar delimitar o território em que se move uma infinidade de produtos e formas variadas.
Compreender as tendências, os lugares e as formações profissionais, a relação entre território e arquitectura, a relação com os utilizadores da arquitectura, continuidade e ruptura com a história e com a tradição são alguns dos temas que cruzam intervenções críticas e obras, construindo o quadro da produção arquitectónica recente.
A selecção dos arquitectos parte do reconhecimento da qualidade das obras produzidas em função de uma responsabilidade crítica que pertence aos autores da iniciativa. Existem omissões devidas à impossibilidade de conhecer tudo e todos, omissões por auto-exclusão de alguns autores que, por vários motivos, não quiseram participar e omissões voluntárias que são expressão clara de discordância relativamente a produtos que entendemos não poderem ser considerados arquitectura.

In the ephemeral world of fashion and image, architecture seems to be gaining more space.
The connotations of the languages displayed by architectural magazines, more than showing the contexts of the design projects, show the intrinsic qualities of the work of the architect him/herself.
We have the strange feeling that the architectural production of the artistic practice, the material expression of a society's culture, is being transformed in a consumption item, that, as any other product, is publicised and sold.
The ease with which today we exchange technological information between continents allows, theoretically, to overthrow geographic and cultural distances, and architecture, as well, gains unlimited possibilities of experimentation and of approach to more advanced forms of expression.
This event intends to check the level of originality of the Portuguese architectural production of the last ten years, by confronting the works of several generations of architects.
To understand the trends, the places and the professional training of each individual, the relationship between territory and architecture, the relationship with those who use the architectural object, a continuation and a separation of history and tradition are some of the themes that intersect the critical interventions and works, making the framework of recent architectural production.
The selection of the architects presented here is based on the recognition of the quality of their works. The critical responsibility of the choice belongs entirely to the curators of this event.
Some are not mentioned because it was impossible to know all the architects of the country; others did not, for their own reasons, want to be part of this issue. Some names are not mentioned because we do not agree with their architectural production, which in some cases we do not even consider architecture.
